Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing
This course is designed to give you the chance to try rock climbing outdoors with the safet of a Top or Bottom Rope system, similar to that used at Indoor Climbing Walls. It will highlight the challenges and rewards of climbing outdoors in a controlled manner, and give you the chance to look at leader placed protection. Topics covered include:
Reading a Guide Book and Choosing a Suitable Route
Safety at the Crag and Other Users
Movement on Rock
Placing Leader Protection (Ground Level or Bottom Roped)
This can be covered in 1 day, or if you require more time it can cover 2 days depending on your needs. Location of course can vary depending on weather conditions. Venues will be discussed prior to the course commencing.
This course is designed to teach you how to abseil in a range of situations. Whether you want to learn the safest technique while multi-pitch climbing with friends, or you need the extra skills to progress your mountaineering skills, for example on a Cuillin Traverse, this course will help you.
Building a Suitable Anchor
The Basic Abseil Set-up
Different Devices – Pro's & Con's
Abseiling in an Emergency
Double Checking your System
If, however, you just want a bash at abseiling for the sake of it, this can be incorporated into the Intro to Outdoor Climbing Course, just ask!
