The weather in the British mountains can change suddenly and dramatically. Always make sure you have considered the forecast weather conditions before venturing out on the hills. Here you will find several websites which provide weather forecasts for the UK. Some are specifically for mountain regions, whilst others are more general but still give good information on what to expect when venturing out.
The Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS) produce weather forecasts for 8 different mountain areas across the UK, and is updated daily. Follow the link to the website, where forecasts can be downloaded in PDF format.
XC Weather gives reliable information about current conditions across the UK, including temperature, wind direction & speed, precipitation and air pressure. It also provides forecasts for the next 7-10 days in your given area.
The Met Office issue an informative UK weather forecast on a daily basis. They also provide access to short, mid and long term forecasts, but more importantly they provide a good Mountain Weather forecast for each of the main UK mountain areas.
Metcheck is an international forecasting site which allows you to choose your international region and browse local forecasts. It also has a wealth of options depending on what activity you are seeking to do, at sea or on land, and provides various lengths of forecast with varying confidence.
The BBC, ITV and several other television channels provide a visual weather forecast for the UK, information from which can be used to make a judgement on mountain weather conditions. Online versions of some of these forecasts can be found below.
Weather forecasts can also be found in most newspapers, on both local and national radio broadcasts and through the Coastguard (although this is a shipping forecast, it gives a good indication of overall weather conditions especially on coastal hills) on 023 80329135.
